“LBI to close, 50 workers lose jobs”
LOCK HAVEN – Liberty Business Information Inc., a telemarketing firm that employs about 50 at the former Piper complex, is closing its doors this month.
The company had seen employment peaks of up to 100 or more during its seven years of operation in Clinton County, on the third floor of the Piper Aviation Museum at the William T. Piper Memorial Airport.
The company informed its employees last week that it is moving the operation to its main headquarters in Montoursville, Clinton County Economic Partnership CEO Mike Flanagan said.
Calls made to Montoursville for comment from a corporate spokesman were not returned by press time today.
“We’ve received confirmation from the Piper Museum folks that Liberty is ceasing operations on or about March 31, and is moving everything to its Montoursville location,” Flanagan said.
“We don’t like to see it happen, but we understand in this day and age, consolidation and being able to hire enough persons in certain locations is reason enough to seek to economize.”
LBI leases 11,000 square feet of office space at the Piper building.
